Gratitude

"The only person that I can depend on and love and know that that person will always be there for me is my ​m​om. She will always be the person I appreciate the most. No matter what, she tries her hardest to keep me happy, to keep me loved, and most of all just be there for me when I need her the most. I am so thankful for everything she has done for me even if it is just saying "hi" every day. I am so thankful that she tries to set a good example for me and my family. So the one person I appreciate the most is my mom and I’ll  love her forever." - Dalten

In addition to their many responsibilities as library secretaries, Lynn Turba and Beth Doome, asked the Language Arts teachers to have their students reflect upon the concept of gratitude. All students and staff were then encouraged to share their thoughts on autumn-colored leaves. Art Class Turned Upside Down

Art Exploration students experience the work of Renaissance artist Michelangelo  in a whole new way. After learning about the Sistine Chapel, students get the chance to create artwork just like Michelangelo. They taped a piece of paper on the underside of tables, counters, etc., and drew while lying on their backs. (posted by Ms. Gruepink)

Frapps + Lemonade + Donuts = Dollars for the United Way!

Students in Introduction to Business were given an opportunity to practice their business skills while attempting to raise money for the United Way. Working collaboratively in groups of three or four, students created and presented the following business elements to their classes: partnership agreement, business plan, flyer, 30-second commercial, and a presentation. Each class then analyzed each business idea to determine which they felt would be most successful. The following businesses won their class votes: Frappicream, Lemony Fresh, and Donut Sale. Congratulations to these three businesses who raised over $300 for the United Way!  Big thanks to all the parents, students, and teachers who contributed to their success! (posted by Ms. KBD)

Nature Sketches

2D Art spent several classes outside to create sketches for a landscape painting. They analyzed the way objects overlap, as well as depicted a sense space by creating strong foreground, middle ground, and background. They also created detail sketches of the tree trunks, leaves, and branches.

To eat or not to eat...

Should the government be involved regulating  genetically modified foods? What should the regulations be?  Through socratic seminars in our Science classes, we explored these controversial questions and many others.  Students enjoyed the seminars, because they got to debate government involvement  in genetically modified foods.  Students gathered information with guiding questions and then identified students  who shared the same stance. Each student was then paired with a partner, whose job it was to sit on the outer side of the circle and listen to the other partner debate. After about 5 minutes, the students debating would meet with their partners to see what standards they were strong in and how they could improve. Overall, students thought the debating would help them grow in standards not met. Students agreed this was a substantial new way of sharing the information.

Artistically Expressing Your Identity

Advanced Art has had a fast pace semester, having extremely detailed and well done pieces. Students in this class have had to move at a fairly faster pace than the normal artist would in other art classes offered here at the middle school. In the beginning of Term 5, they were assigned to somehow create a piece showing who they were. Paige and Morgan have done outstanding pieces that feature their personalities.

Paige has done a piece that shows her artistic ability, featuring her hands. She has used warm colors and the technique of positive and negative space to create the hands standing out. On the posed, white hands there are different drawings that identify who she is and how she brings art to her own life.

Morgan has done an art piece that is very provoking. In one of her favorite songs, "Kitchen Sink" by 21 Pilots, she has taken the lyrics to heart. Her piece that shows what she thinks the lyrics are trying to tell her. Using Sharpies and colored pencils, she’s created a scene of herself looking into a bathroom mirror, pointing out what she believes are her flaws. It also features the quote, “Are you searching for a purpose?”

Both of these pieces are extremely strong but they aren’t the only pieces to view. Check out some of the other identity pieces in the art hallway! Good job to Paige, Morgan, Advanced Art students, and Mrs. Senner for creating amazing artwork this semester. (posted by Tea G.)
