The Face Behind the T-Shirt

Self expression is defined as the expression of one's feelings, thoughts, or ideas, especially in writing, art, music, or dance. The Asa Clark student body is a diverse group of students that expresses themselves in a variety of ways. For many students the way you dress can be a form of self expression. Whether it is a new colorful jacket, or a new pair of leggings, your fashion choices say a lot about who you are as a person. If you have walked the halls of Asa, you have more than likely had the privilege of seeing Peyton and his awesome array of t-shirts. Here are just a few that are part of his vast collection. There I see you

Nighthawks by Edward Hopper; collection of the Art Institute of Chicago

There I see you
Through the glass.
You’re blurry but clear,
Like us.

You think of me as a friend,
I think of you like the world.
You’re so vast,
I’m so tiny.

I’m always in the dark,
And you’re in the light.
Your popular,
I’m not.

This world is filled with people,
But this small town isn’t.
You’d never notice me,
But yet you notice others.

Your extraordinary,
With a touch of inspiration.
The world would be different,
Without you.

I don’t understand why,
Why I don’t have confidence.
When you don’t have to worry,
Worry about anything.

You’ve got alot,
Alot more than you know.
One thing you’re missing,
Is me.

"Creativity is intelligence having fun."

Harvard University Innovation Education Fellow, Tony Wagner, conducted a study on the positive effects of creativity on people's physical and emotional wellness as well as their productivity. He concluded that innovative and creative projects should be life-long endeavors that help people focus and improve self-confidence. With each new iteration, you continue to grow by experimenting and learning from your successes as well as your failures. Ultimately, you must believe in your own ability to achieve the vision of your creations. Wagner affirms Einstein's assertion that "creativity is intelligence having fun." While it is easy to focus on the end result of innovation, it is important to enjoy the creative process. Take time to imagine, to explore, to experiment.  [Source: CNN "A Creative Life is a Healthy Life"]

Nearly three years ago, I resolved to take one photo each day -- a photo of something beautiful, interesting, intriguing, something that causes me to stop and take a closer look. My Project 365 has taught me to slow down, to be present, to pay attention, to rejoice in the unexpected. Technically, I learned about angles, focus, composition, and light. In addition to the visual components, I began to write again, to express my creativity in words as well as images on my own blog. I have felt inspired, dedicated, and encouraged by the feedback of everyone who has followed my progress.

What inspires you? What is your creative outlet? - by Mrs. Larson-Horne
